The main object of this series is to write an entertaining mystery starring a Latina sleuth that almost everybody can enjoy. But as you might suppose, given the crazy characters and plots I create, I have a secret agenda or two as well.
Besides the mysteries, a major theme of this book is to show how Latina in an Anglo world can achieve anything, including career success and her heart’s desire without compromising her “Latinidad.” Keys to success are family, friendship, respect for heritage and ancestral wisdom, which she should never forget. And it doesn’t hurt to have a wry sense of humor. Because of all the life lessons Issy learns throughout the series, her character develops and, in the end, she is transformed into a mature woman ready to tackle any challenge that comes her way.
Another important theme that recurs throughout the series is that when women get together and support each other, miracles can happen. Aromatherapy and herbalism are just two of the tools that help enhance this angle.
